Traditional Haapsalu scarf is square with measures of 100x100 up to 150 x150 cm. The scarf consists of three parts: fine patterned middle part with a border and separately knitted and sown edge lace. It is knitted ,using double woollen yarn on wooden needles no. 3-4. The ready- made scarf is washed in a lukewarm soap-water, rinsed and framed immediately with an average tension. The most valuable is a white scarf. The material used to be a home-made single or double sheep wool, preferably little lamb`s wool. Later imported wool sorts were used, so that it was possible to drag a real Haapsalu scarf through a women`s ring.
